What is the Marriage Prep Seminar?

  • The Marriage Prep Seminar is an opportunity to learn practical relationship skills and dialogue about your relationship in meaningful and productive ways. This is all done in a group setting with other engaged and newlywed couples who are having many of the same life experiences that you are. The seminar is an interactive and fun way to set your marriage up for success.

Is this premarital counseling?

  • It is similar to premarital counseling in that it gives you an opportunity to explore your unique relationship strengths and growth areas and learn practical skills for enhancing your relationship. It is different in that you do not have to share any personal information with the facilitators or other participants unless you choose to do so. Everything you discuss privately with one another may stay just that - private!

What relationship areas will be addressed?

  • Using the results of your online couple questionnaire, you will explore relationship areas such as communication, conflict resolution, financial management, relationship roles, family of origin, spiritual beliefs, as well as personality. In the seminar we address these issues as a group and then give each couple the time for private one-on-one discussion.

What is the couple questionnaire?

  • It is a questionnaire customized to meet the stage (engaged or married) and structure (cohabiting, children, stepfamilies, older couples) of your individual relationship. You both take the questionnaire one week before the seminar. A report is available to you immediately upon completion and shows you the strength and growth areas in your relationship. You bring your report to the seminar with you each session for your reference during your private one-on-one discussions.

Is the seminar religious in nature?

  • No, although we do discuss spiritual beliefs as an important area of communication for couples. All spiritual traditions are respected and welcomed.
